Blue Depths is a knobby encaustic painting that features the accretion technique. To create this effect, I load a brush with melted wax and then allow is to cool before quickly brushing it back and forth over the painting. The process is both quick and gradual.
When painting in encaustic, each layer is fused with heat. This style of painting must be gently heated in order to preserve the delicate bumps that form from this technique.
